Kochi boys win National Final of Aqua Regia – The Science Quiz 2017

>>The quiz that created a new Guinness World Record™ in 2007 has winners from Choice School, Kochi this year. City boys from Little Flower School, Abids come second. In 2017, around 2.1 lakh students competedin Aqua Regia nationally.

(T.I.M.E), India’s leading test-prep institution conducted the 2017 edition of ‘Aqua Regia-The Science Quiz’ for school students across the country. Aqua Regia – The Science Quiz has been certified by Guinness World Records (TM) in 2007 as the largest quiz ever held. The national final for Aqua Regia-2017 was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Basheerbagh today.

Madhav Pramod and P.S. Anirudh from Choice School – Tripunithura, Kochi emerged winners of the 2017 edition of Aqua Regia beating the team of Hussain Ahmed and S. A. Mannan from Little Flower School – Abids, Hyderabad by a big margin. Antara Bhattacharya and Harsh Rao representing G.D. Somani Memorial School, Mumbai secured the third position. The winners were being felicitated by Arvind Mantry, centre director, T.I.M.E. Chennai. The winning team members of the national final were presented with Apple iPads. The first and second runner-up teams were presented with watches.

Noted quiz master and Vice-President of T.I.M.E, Ajay Antony said, “The questions capture the spirit of Aqua Regia. You cannot find them in any quiz book but they are truly red blooded science questions that interest and engage the scientific spirit in every student. The objective of the quiz is to encourage the students to look beyond text-books and establish the connection between what they learn at school and the application of these concepts in the real world”.

“The event, Aqua Regia, was open to students of all streams from Standard VIII, IX and X and was being conducted in 22 cities across the country including Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Cochin, Kolkata and others. Around 2.1 lakh students competed in the national circuit of Aqua Regia 2017. Started in 2006, this quiz has seen the participation of more than 20 lakh students from more than 30 cities over the years. It is the most awaited quizzing event at the inter-school level”, reflected Ajay Antony.
