This video makes sense as 20 million girls drop out of school every year

nestleNestle India joins hand with Nanhi Kali, an NGO for girl child education, to launch #EducateTheGirlChild. The feature film released by Nestle in association with Nanhi Kali on girls’ education is going viral in social media.

The touching film starts with a young girl shown cutting her hair off. When her friend asks her why she is cutting her hair, the small girl replies that her father stopped her elder sister from going to school and said that only her brother can go to school. So the girl decided to cut her hair and wear boy’s dress, so that she looks like a boy and which will allow her to go to school, she believes.

The 51-second-long film ends with a message that reads, ‘In India, around 20 million girls are still denied education.’   The project aims at to draw attention to the fact that society needs to embrace collective responsibility in ensuring that more girls have the opportunity to pursue education.

“This partnership is a powerful tool to promote education of the girl child that has been championed by Project Nanhi Kali for years” said, Chandrashekhar Radhakrishnan, senior VP and head of communications and eCommerce, Nestle India.
