On the beginning of your career as a costume designer
Actually, I am a little introvert person, I did not even wish to be a fashion designer even in my child hood dreams. I had a craze for drawings, which added some colour sense in me. After 10th standard, I learned tailoring, seeing the dresses I had stitched, it was my mother asked me to study fashion designing. Thus I joined in a fashion technology institute based in Kochi.
On the entry to Malayalam cinema
After completing my graduation in fashion technology, I did costume designing for more than 20 ads, which gave me an upper hand in this field. And, it was in 2008, I got the opportunity to hit the big screen with the film The White Elephant, directed by ad film-maker Aijaz Khan.
How did you feel then?
I was tensed, because it was the time when male costume designers were dominating the film industry. But after my first project, I got appreciated for my designs and it paved the way for Mollywood, and I started off with Mammootty- starred Daddy Cool.
On the opportunities for costume designers
There are tremendous opportunities for both costume and fashion designers, especially in movies. The only thing they need to have is patience and creativity.
What do you think the qualities of a good fashion designer?
A good fashion designer should be creative, patient and should have a good colour sense. When it comes to movies he / she should work according to the characters.
