When kids of her age dreamt to become teachers, doctors, engineers, police officers…she was quite different.
She had a dream to become a singer, to be precise, a Carnatic singer.
She had her own reasons for such a dream. She born in music and brought up in music. Yea, she was coming from a family of musicians and she couldn’t imagine a life without music.
Meet Sreeranji, popularly known as Sreeranjini kodampalli, a musician who is gaining popularity in Kerala at a very rapid pace.
Hailing from Malappuram district of Kerala, Sreeranjini, the daughter of Appukkuttan Pillai, famous classical singer and sister to Kodampalli Gopakumar , noted violinist, have been passionate about music since her childhood days.
Her father was her first teacher in music. After completing her formal education she decided to pursue her higher education completely devoted to music.
The life-changing decision
For pursuing her graduation in music Sreeranjini had joined Government College, Chittur in Palakkad. She couldn’t imagine completing course not less than a first rank in Music. Sreeranjini repeated this success in her Master’s and M.Phil. She was that much addicted to music. Especially to the Carnatic vocals. While doing her graduation and postgraduation, she was actively involved in stage performances.
“If you have a dream, work for it, chase it. For me, my dream is to become a singer, and I tried hard to achieve it, still I want to establish myself in music. I am really enjoying my life as a singer. I born in music, brought up in music, living in music and I wish to sing till my last breath,” says Sreeranjini Kodampalli
Sreeranjini’s main focus was on Carnatic vocal concerts. After marriage, Sreeranjini shifted to Bangalore along with her husband Pradeep, and started the second phase of her musical journey. Bangalore was the place that gave Sreeranjini an identity in the stream of mainstream music.
She has more than 800 stage performances within a short span of time. She also got an opportunity to sing in movies during this time.
Famous musicians Neela Ramgopal and Ravishankar Sharma had played a pivotal role in bringing Sreeranjini to the forefront. Sreeranjini at present lives in Kerala with husband Pradeep, who is the back bone of her success, and daughter Bhavayami.
She is also performing Jugalbandis with famous playback singer Gayathri Ashokan.
